promoting just one thing and that's LESS…getting MORE with green simple living
This post is going to be short and sweet. My laptop screen has decided to finally give up, which is synchronistic for this post. I’ve been pushing the limits with my laptop and stretching it’s value and life. I will be able to replace the screen (an inverter back light is all that is needed with a minimum impact to the environment). My laptop will breath new life for a few years.
George Strombolopolous on CBC is promoting the environment with his website One Million Acts of Green and these are the type of things we need to do. Stretch our items. Stop consuming. Make them last as long as they can. Upgrade. Buy used. It is only a recent phenomenon of the last century that we dispose of things so freely.
I will be continuing the act of recycling or should I say another party is giving me a desktop computer and monitor to use as a stop gap which will keep them out of the landfill. A monitor alone contains barium, sulfates, beryllium and a variety of other toxic chemicals that leach into the system. These are things to consider when buying and removing your computer and other equipment.
While it takes a change in mindset and the adjustment can be hard for some, simple green steps done one at a time can slowly become a habit forming change in your life. They will become easier over time. I hope this post will encourage you to think about what simple act of green you can do today and make it a daily habit…more on this in a later post. I’ll show you some of the things I’m doing for my web network to be more green friendly.
