promoting just one thing and that's LESS…getting MORE with green simple living
Community provides for us in a number of ways. Here are just a few of the main solutions:
Have I mentioned there are many different types of community at different levels?
There may be some crossover but every community is formed on one of those basis. While I don’t generally like breaking things into homogeneous groups, sometimes it is useful to separate the whole to see the benefit or impact that different areas have on our regular lives.
Each of us is supported by a community in some way.
Those that think they are an island.
Think again.
Some form of community has provided you with things you use on a daily basis. Here’s some examples:
We all have community to thank for many of the provisions in the world around us. While some communities are much more focused on helping a specific group others are more general like community centers and public associations.
Next time you think that nobody helped you get where you are or nobody is there to help you now – think again. There are groups and systems in place developed for the sole purpose of looking at the greater good.
Community is here for one thing – to help you and everyone else.

Hi Stephen.
What I love about this perspective you’ve share is that not only are there so many ways a community can support us, but there are as many ways where we can focus and apply our different talents and feel useful in supporting the community. Kind of like a yin/yang relationship.

It’s very od that the strongest communities I have been a part of all exist in virtual space… I have never strongly integrated into a real life person to person community… I do think it’s important to interact with people face to face so am working hard to get myself out and about a little more here in Cairo… Stephen I love posts you are writing right now. Hoping to get on Vred a little later to chime in and see what’s going on.

@Davina…it’s been a while, hope you are well. Focus is certainly an under applied trait but when we do use our talents it creates a strong synergy.
@Forest…I too have not had too much success finding “physical” community but have used public facilities and infrastructure all over the globe so I can’t say it hasn’t helped. Online community has certainly offered me much more fulfillment than finding a fraternal group with live participation – that could be the introvert in me just not getting a kick from the over stimulation of events and public places. I still think that all the groups out there are wonderful and mostly have good intentions.
P.S. Glad you love these posts on community. I’ll continue them for March and have a big announcement at the end of the month with a possible double launch of 2 sites (one a lifetime dream project on low impact housing) and the other on frugal green living. Excited. Do you have any requests for a them next month?
